Sanya people are known to enjoy a long life
Sanya is China's only tropical seaside resort, with beautiful sunlight and deep blue skies throughout the year. The air is clean and fresh and the sea is crystal clear. San Ya means three rivers and water abounds, streaming down from the unspoiled mountains nearby. The United Nations rates Sanya as one of the most desirable cities to live in, with an air quality second only to Havana in Cuba. No wonder Sanya is also known as the Hawaii of the East.
With its scenic surroundings and warm climate throughout the year, Sanya is rapidly become the city of choice for both Chinese and international visitors, particularly those who want to avoid the harsh winters of more northern climates. The fresh air and sunshine make Sanya an ideal place for keeping healthy and, unsurprisingly, many people live to be more than one hundred years old. The relaxed atmosphere encourages a carefree lifestyle and, as a result, people are happier in Sanya.
Which yaji ? Visiting the dentist, in Chinese.
Being a dentist with Scandinavian licenses myself, I've always tried to visit dental clinics in the various countries where I've travelled. Mostly because of a professional interest in comparing standards of hygiene, treatment and knowledge, but also with a view to knowing where to go should I need dental service myself.
I don't open my mouth to just anybody, as certainly there are risks of various kinds and seriousness present in such circumstances. And there are dentists and dentists, in Sanya as everywhere else in the world.
While in Sanya a member of my family and myself both suddenly happened to need dental treatment. Having looked at some clinics, we made our way to dr. Li Li in He Ping Road to get the help needed. To the best of my judgement, we were cared for in a very well run establishment, with quite acceptable standards of hygiene, equipment and up-to-date level of dental know-how. The extensive use of disposables in order to avoid cross-contamination was reassuring, as were the fairly new Italian-produced x-ray machines and the steam autoclave (the only safe, practical and quick way to ensure sterile instruments in day-to-day practice).
The wetfinger, disposable-gloved (!) dental treatment was done in a no-nonsense and professional way, with constant attention to the patient's wellbeing. The fee level should not frighten anyone familiar with the cost of dental treatment in Europe or the US. The staff was friendly and helpful, the premises nicely laid out and well kept. One assistant even speaks a little English.
The owner can't be blamed for the somewhat shabby entrance hall or the tortured off-key screams from the karaoke establishment across the hall: it's all beyond her control.
My conclusion, for what it's worth: Laoways and others, and their teeth, are in safe hands here. Should I need extensive crown/bridge-work, I would seriously consider having it done here. It definitely would "pay" for your trip, if the alternative is paying European/US dental fees.
