Sanya A Natural Paradise
Sanya's natural attributes need no human enhancements and most visitors find all the entertainment and recreation outlets they need in the beauty of the natural surroundings.
Most of Sanya was originally tropical rainforest, and today 63 percent is still rainforest cover with wonderful opportunities for biking and hiking.
Scuba Diving
The dear, beautiful natural bays and tropical waters in Sanya provide excel¬lent underwater diving as a large variety of tropical fish swim among natural coral reefs in crystal dear waters with visibility at depths of 16-25 meters.
All you need to do is don a wet suit, strap on an oxygen tank and respirator, goggles and fins and you are ready to enter the magical world of scuba. Famous diving spots around Sanya include Dadonghai, Yalong Bay with its Mei Ren Reef Island, Wild Pig and Xi Pai Islands, West Island and Wuzhizhou Island.
Check the outdoor sports listings for a list of dive companies that are well regarded. For 45 minutes the going rate for scuba diving is V28o, available in Yalong Bay, West Island, Dadonghai and Xiaodonghai.
In addition to all sorts of diving (scuba from the shore, by boat and at night), other water sports can be found including snorkeling, underwater sea walking (Yzzo/hour), underwater sightseeing boats (semi-sub), speed boats (Yzoo/15), sail boats (VI80/3o minutes), banana boats (V3oo/io minutes), jet- skis (V35o/3o minutes), para-sailing (V32o/io minutes), beach motorcycles (Vizo/ro minutes), deep sea fishing (V45o/hour) and platform fishing. These activities can be found at various locations around the island and can be set up through any hotel or travel agent. Let the buyer beware - Guests should seek out licensed operators.
A very unusal excursion is available at Xi Pai Island where visitors can go on an underwater semi-sub. Imported from Australia, this underwater sightsee¬ing boat is the largest of its kind in Asia. The air-conditioned cabin, seating io8, provides a panoramic view of the underwater sea world.
Golf
Sanya is a beautiful place to golf with its perfect year round climate, professional fairways amongst expansive ocean views, mountain scenery and palm trees. The most acclaimed is the Yalong Bay Golf Club across from the Sheraton Sanya Resort. A world-class championship golf course has been designed by world renowned Robert Trent Jones Jr. in accordance with the standards of the US PCA. It has received international acclaim and hosted many international tournaments including APCAs Sanya Open. Green fees for 18 holes are V45o, but with locker, caddy and cart it will cost over Y800. A lifetime membership can be purchased for US$48,000. |
